Booka Brass Band

Finally the wonderful Booka Brass Band are coming to Glebe amphitheatre! Last summer the band had to cancel last minute much to everyone's disappointment. But this summer they promise to make up for it and bring some rocking brass to our grass!

In late 2012 a group of students were drawn together by their classical background and desire to experiment musically. Since then their trajectory has been constantly on the rise, from the success of their critically acclaimed debut EP BBB, a sold-out nationwide tour alongside collaborations and live performances with Irish music heavyweights including The Frames, Lisa Hannigan, Jape and James Vincent McMorrow.

The Riptide Movement

The Riptide Movement

New to Glebe Gardens amphitheatre this year are The Riptide Movement.
Summer 2018 sees The Riptide Movement undertake a Coast to Coast Tour of Ireland in association with Clean Coasts.

Having toured extensively last year on the back of critically-acclaimed releases “All Works Out", Elephant in the Room” and “Changling”, Irish rock band The Riptide Movement release their brand new single "Plastic Oceans”. Recorded in London with producer Chris Coady (Future Islands, Slowdive) there’s a firm backbone of the kind of slow-burning, melodic indie rock that has seen the act build a substantial cult following in their native Ireland, racking up various #1 records and ready themselves to unleash their sound further throughout the UK and beyond.
This summer sees the band continue their heavy touring schedule with a series of gigs and festival appearances in coastal areas, using the track to spread the serious environmental message that our beaches, coastlines, rivers, cities and towns need to be kept litter and plastic free if society is to help prevent our oceans from becoming even more polluted by plastic waste.
Speaking on the track, lead singer Mal Tuohy states: "We're honoured that our music will help raise awareness of one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. Our reliance on single use plastics is destroying our oceans, so well highlighted by David Attenborough in Blue Planet 2. As the saying goes, ‘there are plenty more fish in the sea’ but if we can’t stem the tide of plastic, by 2050 there'll be more plastic than fish in our oceans. The future is in our hands."

We are very excited to welcome The Riptide Movement to our West Cork coast!

Hot House Flowers

Hot House Flowers

Something amazing happens when Hothouse Flowers step onto the stage – something that has been shaped by over thirty years of singing and playing all over the world, yet no two shows have ever been the same! There is a sense of musical adventure, an impulse to reach new heights and depths in music where the unspoken aim is that the band and the audience become one and the world becomes a different place for a while.

Hothouse Flowers are a rock n’roll band, Hothouse Flowers are a traditional band, Hothouse Flowers are a soul band.. Hothouse Flowers are a jam band with their own organic jam spread on both sides of the bread!

Despite the bands lengthy career which is now heading into its fourth decade there is a sense of unfinished business. Every night they want to play the best gig they have ever played and take the musical risks that can maybe make that possible. There are still songs to be written and emotions to share. Whether its in a tiny club, an arena or in a festival field there is a sense that the best is yet to come.

Lisa Hannigan

Lisa Hannigan

We are very excited to have Lisa Hannigan back this summer!

Lisa Hannigan is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based out of Ireland. Her music is greatly reminiscent of introspective folk artists such as Nick Drake, but is not wary of delving straight into the eccentric impulses rampant in the works of musicians like Kate Bush. Lisa released her third album in August 2016. The album was positively received by several newspapers, including the Guardian, which awarded it four out of five stars, commenting on Hannigan's "crystal vocals" and the album's "stunningly pretty songs with quietly powerful undertones", and the Evening Standard, which also awarded four out of five stars and mentioned the "new-found accessibility" the album represented. The Telegraph noted the album to be "subtle and gauzy but loaded with emotion", and calls Hannigan's voice "an incredible instrument, drawing on both opera and folk, with a softness and intimacy".

One Horse Pony

One Horse Pony are back to play the Glebe Gardens Summer series on Sunday 16th July in Baltimore, West Cork.
Experience original Alt-Roots and stompin' Blues rhythms from Ireland’s deep south.

"‘Blue When I Go' is a must-listen." – Hot Press Magazine
"We thought we were at church!" – Jimmy Carter, Blind Boys of Alabama
"This is an amazing live band."- John Creedon, RTÉ

Chart toppers and roots virtuosi One Horse Pony are veterans of Electric Picnic, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, the Kilkenny Roots Festival, Indiependence and more, they've shared stages with musical royalty such as The Blind Boys of Alabama on their travels.

The last 12 months have brought multiple television appearances, a critically acclaimed European tour, a show-stopping performance on the main stage at Townlands Carnival and a raucous debut headlining the 7 Hills Blues Festival.

Celebrating their own original roots music, One Horse Pony showcases acoustic virtuosity and potent vocal harmonies allied to brain-melting high-octane mayhem, for live shows which have to be seen (and felt!) to be believed. Check them out on iTunes, where their single "Staring Blues" hit No. 1 and you can download a copy of their latest album, "Blue When I Go".

Wallis Bird

A musical magpie whose mature, self-affirming songs display an unusual emotional breadth, Wallis defies categorization. The Irish artist has paid her dues, shredding her fingers and breaking string after string from the sheer force of playing on stages small and large across Europe, and throwing her entire soul into each performance with a level of energy that makes her an unassailable force of nature.
This is Wallis Bird, an unpredictable artist who chooses her own path and beckons us to follow.

The Loafing Heroes

The Loafing Heroes return to us this summer after their wonderful performance last winter

The international band The Loafing Heroes are a cosmopolitan blend of folk, poetry, world music and pop, a tapestry of lush harmonies and contemplative lyrics. They have just released their fifth and most complete record called The Baron in the Trees which draws upon influences as eclectic as the members themselves, with haunting ballads giving way to smoky jazz numbers and then to dreamy folk song—tales of loss and rediscovery, of isolation and transformation. Their previous albums (Crossing the Threshold, Planets, Chula and Unterwegs) are a product of their years in Lisbon and Berlin. The band comprises of Bartholomew Ryan (vocals and guitar) from Ireland, Giulia Gallina (vocals, piano and concertina) from Italy, Judith Retzlik (violin and trumpet) from Germany, and Jaime McGill (bass clarinet) from the USA.
