The Loafing Hero

The Loafing Hero are coming to the Glebe this Autumn. Defying precise categorisation, this constantly evolving international band offers a cosmopolitan blend of folk, poetry, world music and pop, a tapestry of lush harmonies and contemplative lyrics that is “beautiful without being afraid of being beautiful” [Altamont Music Magazine]. The music draws upon influences as eclectic as the members themselves, with haunting ballads giving way to smoky jazz numbers and then to dreamy folk song—tales of loss and rediscovery, of isolation and transformation. This is not to be missed! Tickets are just €12 and there will be a bit of food and drink available on the night!

This year at the Glebe we are presenting a series of Sunday evening sessions under the sail in our courtyard, where you can enjoy food, wine and music. For our final installment, we are delighted to announced Dylan Tighe!

Dylan Tighe has been described as “fearless, willing to shed all inhibitions to satisfy his vision…"

Dylan's debut album Record was released in February 2014 to widespread acclaim in Ireland. The Sunday Times declared Dylan an“exquisite songwriter”, while RTÉ proclaimed the album "starkly brilliant” and “a deeply personal and deeply moving piece of work". The Irish Times described it as “brimming with tunes” and “an audacious and seriously intelligent suite of songs”, with the Irish Independent describing Dylan as “an artist to be reckoned with”.

Songs under the sail featuring - Colin Deady

This year at the Glebe we are presenting a series of Sunday evening sessions under the sail in our courtyard, where you can enjoy food, wine and music.

This week we are accompanied by the talented Colin Deady.

Singer Songwriter & multi instrumentalist Colin Deady released his Debut Album on 19th March 2015. The album is a collection of 13 songs, an emotional & nostalgic album that defies an easy pigeonhole. Showcasing his ability as a songwriter with beautifully crafted ballads like “Chapel Street” to soulful & bluesy songs like “Things I love The Most” all blending skillfully into a seamless flow ‘The songs are all about the vocals & lyrics’ says Colin and this is where he hopes the record shines, featuring four part harmonies in many of the songs. ‘I love the human warmth that vocal harmonies can bring to a song, that sense of togetherness, there’s nothing like it’  Lyrically the songs address themes relevant to the human condition…love, hope, mortality, time & human resilience. Colin says ‘there comes a time when we’ve all got to make our way across the wild river. Whether you’re lucky enough to saddle a horse or just wade in the deep doesn’t matter. All that counts in the end is that you get across relatively unscathed’.

Songs Under the Sail featuring - The Starling Song Project

This year at the Glebe we are presenting a series of Sunday evening sessions under the sail in our courtyard, where you can enjoy food, wine and music.

For our first installment, we are excited to announce The Starling Song Project, a collaborative songwriting project with the elderly in health care settings. On this very special night Liz Clark, accompanied by Deirdre Archbold, Christine Deady, Paula K O'Brien will be bringing songs written with words shared by older people throughout hospitals in West Cork, Ireland.

In 2012, Liz was given the opportunity to write songs in hospital settings with groups of older patients along with her colleague, visual artist Tess Leak. Organised by the Arts For Health Partnership Programme, a Skibbereen based organisation, she was asked to collect the stories of participants from hospitals and turn them into song. The results were remarkable.

Liz visited five West Cork hospitals and over time gained the confidence of some very vulnerable people and collected their stories. Together they wrote and sang their songs in hospitals and events across West Cork.

This event is not to be missed!

April Verch & The Henry Girls

The Baltimore Fiddle Fair presents April Verch & The Henry Girls

Fiddler, singer, and stepdancer April Verch knows how relevant an old tune can be. She grew up surrounded by living, breathing roots music - her father's country band rehearsing in the "Newpart," the beloved Verch family room; the lively music at church and at community dances; the tunes she rocked out to win fiddle competitions - and decided early she wanted to be a professional musician.

The Henry Girls are three sisters from Co.Donegal. Their music is infused with the rich cultural heritage of their native Donegal but with a transatlantic flavour. Over the last number of years they have become one of the finest Irish exponents of folk/roots music.
